DOES F.I.R.S.T. INSTITUTE OFFER STUDENT HOUSING?

While F.I.R.S.T. Institute does not offer on-campus housing for students, we do offer a detailed Housing Guide for prospective students to refer to when considering attending our school. This Guide is meant to be a starting point for your housing search, and doesn’t include all of the potential housing opportunities in our area.

Orlando, Florida is an amazing city with a rich and colorful history, and it offers a wide variety of choices for students seeking housing while they are in school. We often recommend the Altamonte Springs and Maitland areas in / around Orlando. These areas offer an average driving time to campus of 12 – 15 minutes depending on your choice of residence.

F.I.R.S.T. Institute does not offer a roommate pairing / matching service – instead, we maintain a list of students seeking roommates that students are encouraged to use when looking for a roommate. Rooming with other F.I.R.S.T. Institute students provides a number of possible opportunities, including carpooling.

APARTMENT SEARCHING 101:

  1. Plan your budget (will you have any roommates?)
  2. Consider a variety of apartments (visit them in person or request virtual tours of available units)

Planning for your housing arrangements before your classes begin is a great way to beat the rush of new students who will also be looking for a place to live. You’ll also have plenty of time to settle in, look for a roommate if you’re interested, and find a place that is just right for you.

ROOMMATE SEARCH TIPS:

  1. Know what you’re looking for in a roommate
  2. Furnish your room(s)
  3. Use Craigslist
  4. Use the roommate list from F.I.R.S.T. Institute
  5. Ask the right questions
  6. Talk on the phone before meeting
  7. Meet in public
  8. Interview at least 3 people
  9. Work out finances before signing anything
  10. Establish rules & boundaries before anyone moves in

Having a roommate or two while you’re attending school can be a great way to meet new people and also reduce the cost of housing for everyone involved. Use your best judgment when placing or responding to ads on Craigslist, and definitely ask your Admissions Representative about the roommate list maintained by F.I.R.S.T. Institute. Work out all of the important details, including finances, and any rules or boundaries that need to be understood before anyone moves in.

MOVING LIST:

  1. Complete the admissions process & establish your program start date
  2. Add yourself to the roommate list at F.I.R.S.T. Institute
  3. Read the Housing Guide
  4. Obtain Renter’s Insurance
  5. Finalize housing arrangements
  6. Establish utilities at your new residence

Before you even pack your first suitcase, there are a few things that you should do in order to be prepared for your time in Orlando. From confirming your class details to securing a place to live, we want to help you have the best experience possible while you’re with us!
