We’re excited to announce that F.I.R.S.T. Institute now offers three brand new Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) programs! Adapted from our on-campus courses and optimized for the web, students can now study Recording Arts & Show Production, Digital Filmmaking & Video Production, and Graphic Design & Web Development entirely from the comfort of their home, or on the go.
What F.I.R.S.T. is All About
At F.I.R.S.T., our goal is to prepare students for successful entry-level careers in the digital media industry. We do this by focusing our curriculum on practical, hands-on work in a creative environment. That means less time in the classroom, and more hours spent with industry-standard equipment and learning from real-world professionals.
Now, F.I.R.S.T. is able to provide that same quality education, in the same 11-month timeframe, entirely online!
How the IDL Programs Work
This is not a “watch a video and answer some questions,” e-learning program. This is a fully-engaged program that gives students the opportunity to learn hands-on, with interaction from their instructors and classmates. Each IDL class is a 5-hour block that includes live lectures with instructors, time to work on projects, video conferencing, student-to-student interaction, individual demos, and more.

Introducing the Creative P.A.K.
Upon enrolling in an IDL, we’ll ship you a Personal Academic Kit, or Creative P.A.K.! This contains all the industry technology you’ll need to complete your classwork and become familiar with the tools of your trade. Depending on what program you choose, you’ll receive a top-of-the-line audio interface, a cutting-edge video camera, or an elegant graphics tablet… and a whole lot more. Creative industries are rapidly evolving, and so are the needs of our students. F.I.R.S.T. prides itself on providing a flexible schedule for those enrolled in the on-campus programs, and our IDL courses serve as an even greater extension of that freedom. Many of our students find work at studios, production companies, and design spaces before they graduate – and the flexibility offered by our programs is crucial in balancing their education and their careers. Now, our online programs give students the ability to study from home, on the go, and miles away from our campus in Orlando, Florida.
