HOW TO FIND AN INTERNSHIP IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS

Are you looking to blossom into the world of the music business? Want to make it in the music business indust? Then, you need to learn all you can. If you’ve attended a music production school, or if you’re still a student, you’ve learned the “book smarts” you need to become a successful music producer, audio engineer, etc… Now, you need that on-the-job experience to take you to the next level. Let’s talk about finding an internship in the music industry.

HOW TO FIND AN INTERNSHIP IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Luckily, there are a few great ways to get your foot in the door after and during music production school. So what’s the best way to get the on-the-job experience you need? You need to find an internship. Here are some tips to find an internship in the music industry:

CHECK WEBSITES RELATED TO THE MUSIC BUSINESS

If you want to find an internship to advance your music career, your first stop should be to check company websites. Start by looking for record labels, concert companies, or even large scale indie companies for entry-level internship positions. If there is an opening you like, apply for an internship. If you are good, you can continue working there after school!

JOB PLACEMENT FROM MUSIC PRODUCTION SCHOOLS

Most music production schools offer a program that helps students find jobs before they graduate. You should always check and see what kind of help and services you can get right through your own school. They usually are very good at helping you find an internship and even a job after you graduate.

ASK AROUND LOCALLY

This final method can help you find an internship in your own town. Go to some of the recording studios in your area and ask if they would keep you on a few hours a week for your internship. If you prove your worth within the first couple weeks, they will have no problem helping you out. The moral of this story is: you never know until you ask!

FINAL TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND

As you search around trying to find an internship in the music industry, keep these things in mind:

BE PATIENT AND PERSISTENT

When you want to find an internship, you may have some trouble at first. You need to overcome that by being patient and persistent. You cannot give up on getting your start as an intern in the music business. If you do not get the first internship you apply for, keep trying!

BRING YOUR RESUME

When you go to different places to become an intern in a music field, you should always bring your resume. If your experience in the music world is simply your schooling at this point, that is okay. As long as you show you are serious about becoming an intern, you should have no problem getting an internship and breaking into the music industry.

WORK HARD AS AN INTERN

After you finally land an internship, show that you are willing to work hard. If you show your commitment and work your butt off, your boss is more likely to keep you on board after the internship is complete. You should always do everything you can when you start, it will all pay off later as you start to build your career in the music industry.
