The news is out! F.I.R.S.T. is introducing Creative P.A.K. – So, what does it mean? F.I.R.S.T. Institute has officially launched their new Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) programs. Now, our three on-campus programs – Recording Arts & Show Production, Digital Filmmaking & Video Production, and Graphic Design & Web Development – are available online. Now you can receive the same quality education in the same 11-month timeframe, from the comfort of your home, or on the go!
Hands on Learning from a Distance!
Our school is focused on making education practical and fun. We take every opportunity to get students out of the classroom and into a studio, film set, or design space. Working hands-on with industry standard equipment is a core part of our curriculum. We bring that same experience to our IDL students through our Personal Academic Kits, or Creative P.A.K.s.
What’s a Creative P.A.K.?
When you enroll in an IDL program, you’ll receive a package from F.I.R.S.T. shipped straight to your door! This has all the equipment you need to become familiar with the tools of the trade. You’ll use this equipment to complete your assignments, and you can even use it for any freelance work you find during the semester. It’s your gear: use it how you need it.
The contents of your Creative P.A.K. depend on which program you enroll in. Take a peek at what you’ll get once you sign up:
(1) Recording Arts & Show Production:
For this program, you’ll receive everything you need to create high quality audio, such as an analog mixer with built-in FX, a MIDI Keyboard Controller, an audio interface, studio monitors and headphones, a lavalier and condenser microphone with required cables, and access to a Digital Audio Workspace, or DAW.
(2) Digital Filmmaking & Video Production:
This Creative P.A.K. contains all the essentials for narrative and documentary filmmaking. You’ll receive a professional digital video camera, a lighting kit, tripod, lavalier microphone and recorder, SD card and card reader for storage, and access to editing programs DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Creative Cloud.
(3) Graphic Design & Web Development:
For all your graphic design needs, we’ll ship you a digital tablet and stylus, as well as a license to programs in the Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, and Photoshop).
We’re always working to stay up to date with creative technology – so this list may change as your industry does. All of the instructors at F.I.R.S.T. are working professionals outside of the classroom, and they ensure that the gear you receive is cutting-edge.

Using the Creative P.A.K.
Your course is designed to familiarize you with this equipment, because it is a core aspect of your assignments. You’ll use it to complete schoolwork, practice after class, and even secure an internship or score freelance work. And once you graduate, it’s yours to keep!
