One of the greatest things you can do while you’re in school is to take advantage of out-of-the-classroom activities, like visits from celebrities and talks from professionals. At F.I.R.S.T. Institute, an Audio Engineering and Film School in Orlando, Florida, students have the opportunity to meet and interact with big names in music industry, such as Jamaican dance hall superstar Sean Paul!
AN EXCITING DAY FOR STUDENTS AND MUSIC FANS
In 2011, Sean Paul’s visit to promote his single “Got 2 Luv U” featuring Alexis Jordan was a very exciting opportunity for our Audio Engineering and Music Production students to take part in. Thanks to Power 95.3 radio, Orlando’s #1 Station for Hip Hop and R&B, listeners were able to win a chance to be apart of this huge event at F.I.R.S.T. Institute.
The afternoon started out with the Power 95.3 street team prepping the school with flyers, posters, and creating an interview area in the Film School sound stage.
School Director Alan K. Forbes said, “It’s great to have such an influential music icon interact with fans and up-and-coming entertainment professionals. This really means a lot to our students.”
Once the event was set up, the artist and his entourage entered through the front door and were met with tons of students and fans taking pictures and asking for autographs. After Sean Paul made it to the interview area, it was all about the fans. He played songs from his new album, and was open to answering any question that was asked.
A totally unscripted moment came when two up-and-coming Hip Hop artist from the school actually got to sing a hook and rap with Sean Paul.
“I was completely amazed that when these two up-and-coming artists asked if they could sing a hook and freestyle with Sean Paul and that he took the challenge. The energy in the room was amazing!” said school Director Donney Smith.
Thanks to a Cox Media Group Production Manager (and F.I.R.S.T. Institute graduate) Erik Velez, we continue to have excellent opportunities like this on a regular basis!
