Recording an album can be quite the stressful experience. There are many factors you have to take into consideration when you are working on an album. Luckily, there are two methods that can make any album come together in little time, at a low cost. Both of these methods involve recording in stages.

RECORDING AN ALBUM IN STAGES: BRICK-BY-BRICK

This method for recording music might seem a little strange to someone who does not have much experience. But it works! When you record in stages using the brick-by-brick method, you are going to tape instruments one at a time: drums, guitar, vocals, bass, and so on. You need to get all of these different aspects “brick-by-brick”, or piece-by-piece.

WHY USING THE BRICK-BY-BRICK METHOD WORKS

There are a couple key reasons why this method works above many others:

  • When you think about it, recording brick-by-brick makes everything easy to line up in the end.
  • When it is all said and done, you can put the pieces together and line them up so that it sounds perfect with little effort.

RECORDING IN STAGES: ONE SONG A DAY

When you want to record in stages, you might not want to use the brick-by-brick method. If that is the case, you can always do the “one song a day” method. All you do here is sit down with the artist(s), and record one song every day from the ground up. It is unconventional, but it has been proven successful time and time again.

WHY RECORDING ONE SONG A DAY WORKS

One of the main reasons recording in stages with the “one song a day” method works is because it allows for better organization. When some producers are getting music together, they work on multiple songs at any given time. By focusing all of your efforts to get one song finished and perfected each day, the process can go quickly and smoothly.
