Rhaelee is a student favorite at F.I.R.S.T. Institute! But she’s more than just an instructor – Rhaelee is an accomplished singer, songwriter, sound technician, and musician! Every day, she passes along her perspective and experience in the industry to her students. Check out the video below to learn more about her journey!
From the Very Beginning
“Music was immediate for me,” Rhaelee says. She has an early memory of her mother encouraging her to sing in a school talent show when she was in grade school. At that point, she lived in such a small town that her school didn’t have a proper PA system, and Rhaelee’s mother brought her own!
Rhaelee sang, “Love Will Keep Us Together”, a song that was special between her and her mother. Most children at the talent show sang with their parents, but Rhaelee decided to sing on her own. Although she was scared, Rhaelee did it – and in many ways, this was the beginning of her career in music.
Years later, a public speaker visited Rhaelee’s highschool and spoke about how few people live their dreams – around twenty percent! This speech set Rhaelee’s life in a new direction: she decided then and there that she would not settle for a job that did not fulfill her creatively.
A Solo Career
Rhaelee resolved to pursue music any way she could. As the years passed, she worked as a sound technician while also recording her own music. It was a challenge to juggle her creative passion with her full-time jobs, but it was worth it. The moment it all came to fruition happened one night as she and her friends piled into an Uber on their way to a club, and her own song came on the radio. Naturally, her friends (and even the driver) freaked out!
“It was one of those moments where it all clicked for me. I was like, I really should be putting all I have into this.”
From that day on, Rhaelee put every spare moment into creating more music.
Finding F.I.R.S.T. Institute
Rhaelee now teaches at F.I.R.S.T. Institute, sharing her knowledge of the industry with the next generation of artists and technicians. All the while, she still freelances as a sound technician and releases music under her own name.
“Teaching at F.I.R.S.T. is one of my favorite things,” Rhaelee says. She enjoys her her students come from vastly different backgrounds: some have been pursuing the recording arts as a career for their whole life, while others have dabbled in other careers and just recently decided to enter the field.
“It doesn’t matter at what point you decide to do this. What matters is investing in yourself. And that makes me happy to see.”
Additionally, Rhaelee feels that now that she’s found success in the audio industry, it’s her prerogative to offer a helping hand and guidance to those just starting out.
“I want my students to go further than I have. And at a certain point, I want to see them working beside me in the industry.”
Rhaelee says that working at F.I.R.S.T. Institute and teaching her students has been a dream. And we think her students would say the same!
