HOW CAN I PICK AN AUDIO PRODUCTION CAREER?
Narrowing down your interests may be difficult, but just consider which kinds of audio production careers you’re most interested in and what you’d like to do for many years to come! Within each of the career types we’ve mentioned so far, there are different jobs that require graduates to focus on a specific aspect of that career path.
HERE ARE A FEW AUDIO PRODUCTION CAREER OPTIONS:
An audio producer would be a project manager, helping to ensure that everything runs smoothly from recording all the way through to delivery of the finished product. This job requires both a broad knowledge of both musical theory and the various tools and equipment used in the industry. A good creative eye / ear is also a plus!
Audio production engineers are the managers of the equipment that is used to record the audio. Where producers oversee the entire recording process, engineers take care of everything from setting up and troubleshooting hardware before and during production, and breaking down, moving, and storing equipment between uses.
If you like to be up close and personal, look for open positions as a sound technician! Sound technicians control the audio during a live performance – they help set up and manage the equipment during a concert or theater performance, and have been known to handle audio recording for educational lectures and presentations as well.
Careers are also available in radio as a sound technician, video game design as a sound designer, and in a variety of situations within the audio engineering industry as an acoustic consultant who evaluates the sound quality of a production space and helps to correct any flaws, making the space ideal for audio production.
