Alexander Nelson: Valedictorian Story | Recording Arts

Meet Alexander Nelson, F.I.R.S.T. Institute’s September 2019 Valedictorian from the Recording Arts & Show Production program. For this graduate, it all began in middle school. He constantly made beats as a tween, which piqued his interest in recording and live sound.

By high school, he was taking piano lessons and a keyboarding class. Eventually, he realized how much passion he had for making beats and producing audio. So, he became determined to go after a career in the industry.

Eventually, he went looking for a music production school. And that’s how Alexander ended up at Orlando’s F.I.R.S.T. Institute.

Why Alexander Nelson Loves F.I.R.S.T. Institute

Mr. Nelson says his favorite part of F.I.R.S.T. is the fact that it’s structured more like a really big family than a school. All the instructors and other staff members really try to help their students succeed.

The teachers want to see you learn all you can, as well as do the best you can.

Everything is hands-on, which he loves. Students get very practical experience in all the classes.

The F.I.R.S.T. graduate tells us that his favorite course was Recording Arts. He says this class lines up with his goal to be a music producer. Along with classmates, the group completed a class production project.

They made their own song and recorded their own vocals onto it.

Soon, he landed an awesome internship with a band called Bioloectric. They do live shows all over the State of Florida. He traveled with them to shows, helping with stage setups as a stagehand.

To this day, Alexander still works with the Bioloectric band.

Alexander’s Future in the Live Audio Industry

Now that the Valedictorian has graduated from sound recording and production school, he’s looking for jobs in the live audio industry. The ambitious graduate wants something along the lines of PSAV or a company on that level. He’s also interested in freelance work within the field of live sound.

Alexander tells us that he landed a job as a production assistant for a local Halloween event called Dark Horizon, Point of No Return. He credits F.I.R.S.T. Instructor, Steven, for this career opportunity. It’s set to showcase in October 2019.

Alexander Nelson: It’s About “Passion”

When asked what advice he would give to someone looking to get into the industry, Alexander Nelson says don’t go after the money. Instead, go after your passion. He advises that no matter what industry you choose.

…because, as long as you’re doing what you love, the money will come.
