The Career Services Department was established to ensure students are fully prepared to begin their job search upon graduation and to create awareness among employers so they look to F.I.R.S.T. Institute graduates as a major source of staffing and internship opportunities.
Once students complete half of their program, they become eligible to access Career Services.
Students are able to set an appointment with the Career Services Department which will review and provide recommendations on cover letters, resumes, demo reel packaging, business cards, and professionalism as a whole.
We provide our students with company meet-and-greets and professionalism tips so that students are ready to take on job interviews before they even graduate!
Internship and employment opportunities are posted by the Career Services Department year round via the Career Services Board, Facebook, and eNewsletters, and Canvas. Students may choose to take full advantage of these or can take it upon themselves to find opportunities. After graduation, the Career Services Department will continue to be in touch with graduates to see how their job search advances and in which areas they may need additional assistance. Students are required to fill out employment verification paperwork during their first few months following graduation to satisfy accreditation regulations. *F.I.R.S.T. Institute does not guarantee employment.
So you’ve completed your time with us at F.I.R.S.T. Institute. Who will you become? Within the Digital Media industry there are a multitude of roles you could take on post-graduation.
And we’re here to help.
We strongly recommend you seek internship options and commence building your network and explore career options in your specific industry while still in school. Then, once you finish your program, you’ll have a better idea of who’s shoes you want to fill. It can’t be easy to decide what you’ll do for the rest of your life so take the time to do your research. Use websites such as O*NET to research different career options. O*NET can help you see daily work activities, salary expectations, work values, technology skills, and more for specific job titles.
Make an effort to talk one-on-one with some of the faculty and staff at F.I.R.S.T. Institute. They are a great resource for you to use as they all have valuable experience in the field. Talk to your class instructors or even advisors in Career Services to see if your interests match the job title you’re going after. They’ll have useful advice as to what path might be best for you based on their background.
We have provided a list of popular job descriptions for each program under the “Your Career” tab. Are you more interested in becoming an Audio Engineer to transfer a live performance into a high-quality recording? Or does the role of a Music Producer sound more appealing to you… where you can write, produce, and arrange the music yourself? Take what you’ve learned in class and decide where your talents can flourish to create a successful career.
Be sure to take advantage of some other materials on our website. Review our Career Services Handbook to ensure you have all the necessary tools to search, apply, and interview for a job.
And remember, whatever you decide: You’re always welcome to seek help from Career Services even after graduation. Because F.I.R.S.T. Institute is where Creativity Meets Career.
